Toastmasters Club

who?In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name “Toastmasters.”

Beacon Advanced Communicators is a chapter of Toastmasters International based in Indianapolis Indiana, and is THE ONLY TOASTMASTERS CLUB IN INDIANA with this vision:

1. To attract members who speak to groups and intend to speak to groups outside of our club.
2. To provide opportunities for members to master advanced skills from Toastmasters International's advanced communications manuals and other materials.
3. To encourage members to apply their skills to inform, inspire and influence people.

Beacon is a "President's Distinguished Club" that provides opportunities to practice programs from 2 minutes to 30 minutes long and receive feedback from caring members that include leaders, speakers, trainers, storytellers and humorists.
We give members the opportunity to develop and improve their speaking, listening and thinking skills through our club meetings, speech contests and training seminars; and support their development with excellent printed, audio and video materials. We have approximately 20 members and meet each Thursday at 6:30 (except holidays) for 1-1/2 hours.
Toastmasters International includes more than 200,000 men and women in more than 10,000 clubs in more than 90 countries.
why?Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from Toastmasters' practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, we can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a fun, friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators.
